# How I Built an App That Got Acquired

An app I built has been acquired by Huawei.

It’s called **Kabi**, a workout and food-tracking app. Seeing something I built reach this point is a milestone I’m grateful to share as a Filipino developer.

But behind that announcement is the part I want to talk about: building the app itself.

## Building something useful

Kabi brings together the everyday details of staying active: workout routines, sets and reps, rest timers, workout history, food tracking, and body metrics.

Each feature sounds straightforward on its own. The real challenge is making everything work together without making the app feel like another task to manage.

When someone is exercising, they want to record a set and get back to their workout. When they check their history, they want to understand their progress. Those moments matter more than how impressive a feature list looks.

That’s the kind of product Kabi is built around. Practical tools that fit into a routine.

## Bringing Kabi to the wrist

A fitness app also needs to make sense beyond a phone screen.

With Kabi’s Apple Watch companion, the experience extends to a device that’s already on your wrist while you train. A quick glance, a logged set, a rest timer. Small interactions, but useful ones.

Now, that journey includes the **Huawei Watch GT 7**.

Building for a watch means thinking carefully about what belongs on that smaller screen. You can’t simply shrink the phone app. You have to decide what someone needs right now and make it easy to reach.

## A new chapter with Huawei

Huawei’s acquisition of Kabi is a significant step for the app and for me personally.

As an independent builder in the Philippines, it means a lot to see my work become part of a bigger story. I’m proud of this milestone, and thankful to God and everyone who has supported my journey.

## Keep building

I don’t think every app needs an acquisition to be worth building. A product that genuinely helps people already has value.

But experiences like this remind me why it’s worth putting your work out there. You can’t predict every opportunity a project might lead to.

Build something useful. Pay attention to the details. Give people a reason to keep using it.

That’s the work behind Kabi, and the part I want to keep doing.
